Guam Economic Development Authority (GEDA) Grant

The establishment of the Prugråman I Pinila I Famagu'on Guahån (or Prugråman Pinilan) was administered by the Guam Economic Development Authority (GEDA). The GEDA grant was secured by the Bureau of Women's Affairs (BWA) to launch a summer program for children aged 5 through 13. Led by former senator Regine Bisco Lee (RBL & Associates), and Drs. Francine Naputi, Timothy de La Cruz, and Lisa Linda Natividad from the University of Guam, the Comprehensive Self-Awareness Education (CSE) workshops aimed to provide a safe and enriching environment where kids could learn about the health, nutrition, and the human body for FREE during the summer months. The program was held at the Guam Community College (GCC) and divided into four cohorts, which ran through the following dates:

Cohort 1: June 12 - 16, 2023, from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Cohort 2: June 19 - 23, 2023, from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Cohort 3: July 31 - August 04, 2023, from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Cohort 4: August 07 - 11, 2023, from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Program Feedback

"My son enjoyed this summer program. He felt comfortable to tell me he learned about sexuality and drugs. He is almost 8 and I feel it is important for our children this age to learn about these topics before they enter middle school," said L. Aguon, a Sinajaña resident. "My generation as a millennial, I did not have a safe space to easily talk to my parents about these topics because of the stigma of the topics making our parents 'uncomfortable', added Aguon. "So now that I am a parent, I want to ensure my child has the opportunity to learn and apply the skills as he grows upbeat able to have open conversations about it." she said.
